817 HEADSET
For
a comfortable HF pack operation is highly recommended
a headset. You can consider home brewing a headset using
a very simple circuit.

10K ohms and 4.7 K ohms

Microphone element: electret.

You
must look for a headset that keeps the microphone in front
of your lips to achieve a good signal to noise relation
between your voice and the external noise.
You will need
to adjust the microphone and the vox gain on the FT 817
to compensate the differences between the microphone manufacturers.
The cell phones
headsets that have microphones far from the mouth can
be used, but they needs higher gain level adjustments
that can easily trigger the FT 817 vox
The speaker
mini plug helps to keep the box faced to the operator.
One
of my recommendations is to use a small rigid piece of
wire on the microphone connector to keep it self supported.
The control box is used to accommodate the earphone connections.
